Working poor book summary

In the book “ The Working Poor “ by David Shipler he talks about in chapter 1  how workers are often taken advantage of. Many work for only minimum wage and are misled by their employer. Most of these companies often do not pay attention to labor laws. In Chapter 2 it talks about how many jobs do not have any way of moving up. So this means most of the workest are just working to get it by instead of enjoying a career.  Chapter 3 covered immigrants in this country and how they are often under paid. Some work out of fear of having to leave the country for being illegal. Chapter 4 talked about how migrant farmers are treated poorly. They face a lot of abuse because once again their wages are low and there are not opportunities to advance in their field.  Chapter 5 illustrated how many people who are not used to working a normal job feel. They feel out of place because many of these people may have lived a life of crime before this and now they just feel out of sorts. Chapter 6 talked about sexual abuse and how even the rich are affected by this. The difference between the rich and the poor is that the rich often have the financial means to overcome it.
